*** WARNING ***
The bottom of the pool is currently very shallow, less than 6 feet in most areas due to runoff from the 2003 wildfire. You can still jump from some of the lower rocks, but check the depth first.
Here's what can happen if you're not careful: www.lunatique.com/stephan/
The Devil's Punchbowl is located just east of Ramona California, which is about 40 miles northeast of San Diego. To get to the Punchbowl, you must hike about 2 1/2 miles, and there is some fairly steep terrain. The punchbowl is located in a valley, at the base of a 90 foot waterfall. During the summer months, the waterfall slows to a trickle, but after winter rains it can be quite impressive. On one side, it is walled in by a sheer cliff,
with one jumping point at about 65 feet, and another rock outcropping at about 85 feet. The hike to the jump spots can be riskier than the jump itself, as it is necessary to crawl across the face of the cliff on a very narrow and crumbling trial. The cliff is nearly vertical, so you don't need to worry about jumping outward. On the other side are some tamer jumps, ranging from about 6 feet up to 45 feet. These are all located on rocks, and are fairly easy to get to.The water at the Punchbowl is quite deep, I have never seen the bottom in the landing areas. How to get to the Punchbowl.
