made this gauge pod using the existing trim as the base. I then bought
a single and a double gauge pod for a miata, and using a heatgun and a
little cutting I formed the pods to the existing trim lines as much as
possible. I then covered the entire thing with several coats of fiberglass,
and with a little filler and a lot of sanding I achieved the desired result.
I painted it to match the interior. The L.E.D.s are for alarm, blue
running light indicator, cooling fan on, and the other is for future use.
The light that come with the Autometer Ultralight series are not very bright
due to the solid aluminum plate, so I put in higher wattage green bulbs.
I also added a big resistor so you can dim the lights if they get obnoxious
when it's really dark out. Having the gauges in this position is great,
you can get a quick look at the engine conditions without really taking
your eyes off the rad (or rearview mirror). The gauges are, from top, oil
pressure, fuel mixture, and coolant temp. I would put a boost and NOS pressure
gauge, but I don't have a turbo or NOS :-( Don't attempt this type of gauge
pod unless you plan on spending quite a bit of time to get it looking good. |
